Captain Doug is the former owner/operator of Captain Doug's Tidewater Tours. He has been providing Tours in Cedar Key for over 24 years. He has recently returned to the helm as an independent tour operator and is looking forward to serving you.

In addition to the thousands of hours he has spent at the helm, he has consistently sought to expand his knowledge, skills and abilities by attending numerous lectures and presentations given by local biologists and researchers from the Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuge, The Florida FWC and the University of Florida's Nature Coast Biological Station on various topics involving our coastal marine eco system. He has also read several books, read numerous articles, and attended lectures on our fascinating local history. All of these efforts combine to ensure that you will receive a balanced and thorough overview of the natural aspects of our local environment as well as our history.
The Island tour typically lasts about two hours. During this time we will usually visit 3 of our nearby National Wildlife Refiuge Islands. These will include Atsena Otie Key, the site of a early settlement. Also Seahorse Key, the site of the 1850's light house and Snake Key ,a classic example of a Island Colonial Bird nesting site. As we slowly cruise the shore line you will receive a thourgh overview of the history of the island and the highlights of the natural aspects of the island.
Awesome, captivating, exceptional, intriguing. These are just a few words often used to describe our Suwannee Riverr Tour. This trip leaves from the Cedar Key Marina, traveling along the shallow coastline until entering the river approximately 12 miles north of Cedar Key. Guests will experience visual changes in the trees and vegetation as well as the overall eco system as we travel from a salt marsh estuarine eco system into a freshwater river swamp eco system .

The tour eventually travels approximately six miles up river. Virtually the entire trip takes place within the National Wildlife Refuge. There will be one stop at a Marina/restaurant on the river.
